Montenegro + Albania (Theth, SH20 & SH21) + Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar)

This is our extended “best of the Balkans” loop for riders who want variety in one trip: coastlines, canyons, high passes, wild national parks, and two of the most atmospheric cities in the region — Sarajevo and Mostar.

The itinerary has 8 riding days, but in real life it rides best as a 10–12 day trip. The Balkans are made for stops: viewpoints, short hikes, rafting/canyoning days, local food, and small detours you’ll want to take. If you try to “tick boxes”, you’ll miss the magic.

We ride these roads ourselves all the time, keep track of the best new asphalt, and know where the “Google route” is not the nicest route. If you tell us your riding style and priorities, we can help you adjust this plan to fit your pace.

Tour overview

  • Format: self-guided route idea (you ride at your own pace)
  • Countries: Montenegro → Albania → Montenegro → Bosnia & Herzegovina → Montenegro
  • Road type: 100% asphalt, focused on scenic mountain roads, canyons, and coast sections
  • Riding style: twisties + panoramas + “big mountain day” stages
  • Best for: riders who want maximum diversity in a limited time
  • Tip: add 2–4 buffer days for rest, weather, and unplanned stops (highly recommended)

  • Finale in style: Kotor Bay + Lovćen + Cetinje on the last day

Daily vibe (short & practical)

Day 1 — Coast & lake viewpoints

Warm-up day with coastal riding, Ulcinj atmosphere, and Skadar Lake panoramas around Rijeka Crnojevića. Easy to ride, hard not to stop every 10 minutes for photos.

Day 2 — Canyons to Albania, arrive in Theth

Moraca canyon roads, mountain rhythm, then into Albania for the ride toward Theth — one of the best “finish lines” you can have after a full riding day.

Day 3 — Peaks, valleys, and back to Montenegro

Accursed Mountains feeling, Grebaje valley vibes, national park landscapes, and a smooth return toward Kolasin.

Day 4 — National parks and the Tara canyon

Biogradska Gora, Zabljak, Tara viewpoints, then deeper into the Piva region. This is classic Montenegro: big nature, big roads, and big smiles.

Day 5 — Durmitor passes and high-road Montenegro

Durmitor’s highlights including the high pass sections, then down toward Nikšić. One of the most “motorcycle” days of the whole itinerary.

Day 6 — Into Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sutjeska, then Sarajevo

Remote connectors, lake scenery, Sutjeska National Park, then Sarajevo for an evening walk and a slow dinner.

Day 7 — Scenic connectors to Mostar

A beautiful ride day through lakes and mountain scenery, then Mostar — iconic, photogenic, and always worth an overnight.

Day 8 — Waterfalls and the grand finale back to the coast

Kravica Waterfall and Herzegovina landscapes, then back into Montenegro: Trebinje area → Kotor Bay → Lovćen → Cetinje → Budva. A perfect closing chapter.
